Individual exercises are taught to raise your chi and boost your energy, and over time you learn sets of exercises such as: Shibashi 1, The Eight Brocades, Taichi 15, Dragon and Tiger Chigung, The Marriage of Heaven and Earth, Opening the Energy Gates, Five Element Chigung and Gods Playing in the Clouds. Your practice becomes steadily more meditative. You get increasing knowledge of the Taoist principles that underlie the practice and which can guide you in daily life. Your instructor is Clive Tempest. He started his training in taichi with Master Chu King-hung in 1982 and later continued to learn from Bruce Frantzis and Master Wing Cheung. He's certified to teach Shibashi by the Tai Chi, Qigong, and Feng Shui Institute of Hong Kong.

Joining as a Beginner: These are not drop-in classes. Newcomers are welcome to join on 2 September when we begin again at the beginning - learning about the essential elements of chigung and the eighteen movements of Shibashi Taichi. We offer a training in these exercises that requires commitment over many months. If you're interested in joining us, then please let us know by email and you'll be invited to join the autumn series of classes: contact@bigger-picture.net.

Experienced Practitioners: The Advanced Classes are for those who know one or more of the chigung sets and who wish to develop their perception of chi. They practice regularly, if not daily, and come to the class to work with their chi, to get to know more about how it flows and sustains their health and wellbeing. Group members who attend advanced classes are invited to also come to beginners classes for no extra cost. In that way they can have an extended Wednesday morning practice of over two hours.

Summer Practice: Members of the beginners and the advanced class come together to enjoy a relaxed session, which may be outdoors, and to practise what they already know rather than learning anything new.

Circle

Retreats and Weekends Away

You can can get away from your busy, preoccupied life and hear Clive speak about living more consciously. On longer retreats chigung is used to raise the energy needed to bring about the new in you. You do not have to be experienced in chigung to participate. There are also periods of sitting in silence together in a shared space of presence. Weekend events may or may not include some chigung. The focus then is on your purpose in life and the value of 'practising presence'. These events are residential, held in lovely places with good company, comfortable accommodation and vegetarian cuisine.

'When we work with chi, and with our intent bent on change, the residue of past experience reduces. The anxious anticipation of the future fades away. It is in presence that we find purpose. It's in purpose that we find love. Or it could equally be said that we find love in presence and purpose in love.'
